Holcim + Elemental

We documented the setup process and showcase of the prototype for The Basic Service Unit (USB), a collaboration between Holcim and Pritzker Prize-winning architect Alejandro Aravena and his firm Elemental.

The partnership introduces a novel biochar technology that converts buildings into carbon sinks. The project follows the principle of incremental design, which entails fast and efficient construction through the provision of essential housing components, while empowering people to finish building their homes themselves.

On show in Marinaressa Gardens and at Palazzo Mora in Venice during the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025.
